Marettimo is beautiful and very generous. It really worth a visit even to those who want to go to the farest Egadi Island leaving behind Trapani and the other islands with their crowded beaches. We have natural beauties, peacefull atmosphere and hospitality. We ask to leave at home the frenetic way of living and the rhytm of the city to discover a new style of living, relaxed and in close touch with nature that’s the best way you will appreciate the Island.

The Island is part of the Egadi Arcipelago. We are at tha far west side of Sicily, right in front of the city of Trapani. The other two island of the Archipelago are named Favignana and Levanzo.
Favignana is the biggest one and the most well known, it ‘is famous for the ancient Tuna fishing activities. Levanzo is north of Favignana and it’s the less populated. Famous for its “grotta del Genovese” prehistoric cavern. There are other two little island named “Maraone” and “Formica” right in the middle of the channel between the island and the costline. From 1991 all the area is a protected natural reserve. Marettimo is the farest island from the shore of Sicily, the western one and the one with the biggest areas covered by the natural park and it is the wildest.

There are no streets, no cars, only a little road you can follow by foot or on the local lighthouse guardian off road jeep and it’s on the west side of the island. There are many tracks  to explore the island and the mountain by foot . Many hendemic species of plants are present because of its insulated condition. Lot of trees, expecially in spring time, richness of water which excavates its vertical cliffs who descent toward the sea and the ocean waves made the rest.

You can enjoy and taste a virgin territory and of extraordinary beauty. A richfull nature, many animals are present like rabbits, wild boars and moufflons. The island is also a safe place for a particular species of mediterranan Eagle and others rare birds like seagulls and different kinds of hawks. During migration season we can meet and observe easily Cranes and Storks.
The Island is beautiful not only for diving activities, as you can see, but also for its wild nature. The park guardians keep the island clean and let you explore it via several trekking paths and it is appreciated also by naturalists and bird watchers. Quite often there are meetings of the National league for bird protection
